Lesson 1 of 9 · 7 min read

Your organisation and its people

Name your organisation, choose its language, invite people with the right role, decide how they join, and help someone who lost their phone.

What you’ll learn

  • Where the organisation's name and default language are set.
  • How to invite people, and what each role can do.
  • How people can join by themselves, and how Google and GitLab sign-in fit in.
  • What to do when someone loses the phone they use for two-step verification.

The organisation: Settings › General

Owners and admins change two things in Settings › General:

  1. Name — shown under Livra at the top of the sidebar for everyone in the organisation, in emails and on invitations.
  2. Default language — English or Français. It is what members see unless they choose their own language, and the language of invitation emails your organisation sends.

Click Save. Each person can still pick their own language in the account menu (your name at the bottom of the sidebar › Language); that choice wins over the default.

The three roles

Role Can
Member Work on their own features.
Admin Everything a member can, plus the organisation's settings, inviting and disabling members, reset links for members, and looking at everyone's features.
Org Owner Everything an admin can, plus making and removing admins, merge request rules, billing and handing over ownership. There is one.

Every account belongs to exactly one organisation.

Invite someone

Example: Awa, an admin at Acme Logistics, onboards three developers.

  1. In Settings › People, under Invite someone to Acme Logistics, enter the first email and keep the role Member. Only the Org Owner can invite admins.
  2. Click Send invitation.
  3. With a mail server set up, each developer gets an email. Without one, the link is shown once on the page: Awa copies it and sends it privately. It works for 7 days.

Pending ones appear under Open invitations.

Tip: invite people with their work email. Someone who works for two companies needs a different email for each, because an account belongs to one organisation.

Change a role, disable, reset a password

In the people list, change Role or Status on a row and click Save. Disabling signs the person out everywhere at once and stops their runs; nothing they made is deleted. Admins manage members; only the Org Owner changes admins. Reset link shows a password link that works for 24 hours.

How people join

Under How people join your organisation:

  • Invited people only — the safest choice.
  • Also anyone with an email at these domains — list your company's domains, for example acme-logistics.com. A domain belongs to one organisation.

Sign-in options — Continue with Google and Continue with GitLab — are turned on for the whole platform. They don't let anyone in by themselves: a new account still needs an invitation or a claimed domain.

When someone loses their phone

People can protect their account with two-step verification in Connected accounts, and they keep recovery codes. If someone loses their phone and their codes:

  1. Open Settings › People and find them: their line says Two-step on.
  2. Choose Reset two-step, then Turn it off.
  3. They are signed out everywhere and told by email. They sign in with their password and set it up again.

Admins can do this for members; the Org Owner for admins too. Nobody in the organisation can do it for the Org Owner — Livra support can.

Tip: before you reset, confirm who is asking through another channel (a call, in person). A reset is exactly what someone trying to take over an account would ask for.

Check yourself

1. A member chose Français in their account menu, but the organisation's default is English. Which language do they see?

Français. A person's own choice wins over the organisation's default.

2. Can turning on Continue with Google let anyone with a Google account join your organisation?

No. New accounts still need an invitation or an email at a domain your organisation claimed.

3. Your Org Owner lost their phone and recovery codes. Can an admin reset their two-step verification?

No. Only Livra support can reset the Org Owner's.
